The Problem of Waste Management in India


30 interviews with homemakers, working professionals and students from different parts of India were conducted through an online Google form to understand individual waste management concerns, challenges and habits. After the interviews were conducted through an affinity diagram key insights were developed that helped in generating cues for initial idea.

UX/UI Lead - Initiated the user research and developed a self-driven UX case study. Conducted user interviews, and contextual inquiry, and developed low and high-fidelity prototypes and a UI Kit. Conducted testing with real-time users to gain insights about possible improvements in the user journey.

Project Outline
India generates over 160,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day, of which only around 80% is collected and less than 30% is treated. Lack of awareness and infrastructure are key challenges. Waste Dictionary is a mobile app aimed at promoting proper waste management practices across India by educating and engaging citizens through an encyclopedic content library, interactive tools, waste management service provider directories, community forums, and practical guides that simplify concepts.
